Your History

Ship Building

Marine City was once a bustling hub of shipbuilding. Many wooden ships that sailed the great lakes were built here.

Family

Our collection includes many family history documents and family trees. Come browse our files, you never know what you might find.

Houses and businesses

Do you know the history of your house? Ever wonder what businesses used to be downtown?

Relaxed & Friendly

The Museum

Our Museum started out as the Newport Academy, founded by Emily Ward, built in 1847 by her brother Eber Brock Ward. The original location was on the north west corner of Southe Maine Street and Washington Street, in Newport (Newport was later changed to Marine City).

Exhibits

Diorama

Our volunteers have been working hard on our diorama of 1885 Marine City. We have new trees, buildings, and boats. Was your house built before 1885?

The tugboat Champion

The Champion towed two boats from Lake Huron to Lake Erie, one of them, The France Palms was built in Marine City in 1886.

New Displays

We’ve been working hard on updating our displays at the museum. The Kitchen, Dining Room and Bedrooms have all gotten makeovers.
